OUT OF PLACE - collaborative project between Klara Brynge and Åsa Christensson

Through having conversations about our artistic work we have discovered mutual approaches to the subjects that we investigate. Starting in discovering that we have initiated a collaboration where we want to challenge and find affinity in our artistic investigations. The similarities we see in each others work is are both conceptual and found in the crafting and approach to materials we work in. We can also see kinship in being reflected in the expressions of our work.

The title of our project, Out of place, comes out of thoughts about places in the world and the contemplation as a tool to investigate things that are to be found in a distance. Those places do somehow exist in the world, not necessarily as a specific geographical place, but as a fused image, a feeling or reflection of many similar places. Some of the places has a solid ground that encounter space at a horizon, others are floating in emptiness without clear direction. There is always a human observer present in relation to the place. A starting point for the comparative relation to the place, the measuring stick that forms the distance, and the filter through which the place is experienced. Through processing and cultivation of the materials, wood and metal, the intangible is given form. The objective of this project is to through conversations about artistic work create a mutual platform for investigations of the themes we are fascinated of. When we meet in our processes synergies are developed and they in their turn will affect the work. Another question we want to investigate is how we in our collaboration can meet others and expand our thoughts further through that meeting.
